Abstract:This book deals with the ecology of the Kafue Flats, a wetland system in southern Zambia. The main subjects are phytosociology, diversity, vegetation structure and productivity of the grasslands on the Kafue Flats. Attention is also paid to belowground plants structures, decomposition and fire. The results are correlated to the main biotic and abiotic environmental conditions, grazing and flooding respectively, and in the discussions links are drawn from the natural situation to the expected situation when the effects of damming the main river become manifest.
