Abstract: | The international Arab Women's Solidarity Association (AWSA) started in 1982 and was officially registered in Cairo in January 1985. In September 1986 it held a conference in Cairo on the challenges confronting Arab women at the end of the 20th century. The book contains most of the papers (16) presented, three of them dealing with specific African countries: Nahid TOUBIA - Women and health in Sudan; Mouinne CHELHI - The modern Tunisian woman between hysteria and depression; Fatima Babiker MAHMOUD - The role of alienation and exploitation of women in the origins of State and capitalism in the Sudan.
