| Abstract: | This publication deals with the companies which delivered oil to South Africa, thus breaking the oil embargo. In the first section the research findings for 1985-1986 are given. The second section deals with the preliminary findings on apparent crude oil deliveries to South Africa during the first eight months of 1987. The next section describes the countries from where tankers sailed to South Africa, January 1979-August 1987. The fourth section lists the main oil and shipping companies involved. Section five deals with the effects of the oil embargo on South Africa and the last section deals with closing the loopholes: actions to tighten the oil embargo. Appendix I gives the principal working tables. Appendix II deals with methodology. Appendix III lists imports of petroleum products by Namibia, 1985-1986. Appendix IV gives background information regarding the Shipping Research Bureau and its founding organizations. |
