Abstract:Beyers Naude, general secretary of the South African Council of Churches, remarked to the author, professor of biblical interpretation at Auburn Theological Seminary in New York City, during the latter's visit to South Africa in March-April 1986, on the absence in South Africa of a thorough discussion of the issue of violence or nonviolence, and the importance of forming a legitimate theological position regarding that question.
