Abstract: | In this paper, factors influencing rural development in Nigeria are examined while options and strategies are offered for tackling the country's rural development dilemma. It is argued that the very concept of rural development demands the application of knowledge and skills of all national services in an integrated, mutually reinforcing way. This implies that programmes of agriculture, health and nutrition, social and physical infrastructures should be planned and implemented with the active participation of the entire population, using the farmer as the focus of attention and the village as the centre of activities.
