Abstract:Although Kenya ranks among the leading African countries in the priority it accords to funding education, the Kenyan economy is no longer able to provide the massive funds required by the educational sector. New sources of educational financing must be found in order to maintain, let alone improve current educational enrolments and quality. To this end, this paper proposes alternative ways of raising additional funds for secondary and higher education. The proposed alternatives fall into the following categories: public sources apart from those of the central government (local public sources, education tax); private sources; sources within the education system itself; and sources from abroad.
