Abstract: | This paper focuses on the poverty of women in African agriculture, on the basis of a study of 105 rural women in southwestern Nigeria in 1979-1982. The policy implication of the case study for alleviating this poverty is that integrating women into development not only means involving women in rural development projects, but also means ensuring that initial imbalance entailed in low status, limited access to agricultural resources, heavy work load, and low incomes for women, relative to men, is corrected.
