Abstract: | This paper shows, in a historical perspective, how education in Tanzania from the precolonial through the post-Arusha periods has been linked to productive life. Greater attention is paid to the post-Arusha period (1967 to date) and the Education for Self-Reliance (ESR) Policy which emphasizes the need to integrate mental and productive work. Achievements and weaknesses of ESR policy implementation are described, and recommendations made for future action. Bibliogr. |
