| Abstract: | First, the author describes the background to President Sadat's assassination in 1981 by Egyptian fundamentalists. Sadat's political capitulation at Camp David and Egypt's isolation from the rest of the Arab world, together with the parasitism of the emerging nouveaux riches under his regime, were regarded with rising discontent and deep despair by Muslim extremists. Next, the author turns to one group of Muslim extremists, the Muslim Brothers, and examines their ideas and goals and the question of whether they have a future in Egypt. Note. |
