Abstract:Educational technology is the rational and optimum use of the teaching means and materials in the field of teaching, education and training, in accordance with a systematic analysis. A subregional workshop on educational technology was held in Bouaké (Côte d'Ivoire) from 4 to 8 November 1985. Participants from the Central African Republic, Burundi, Côte d'Ivoire, Madagascar, Senegal and Chad took part in this workshop organized by the UNESCO Regional Office for Education in Africa (BREDA). This article reports on the workshop. In order to illustrate the variety of situations with respect to educational technology and teacher training, three cases were studied: the case of the Central African Republic, the Republic of Senegal, and Côte d'Ivoire. The overall conclusion was that there is an emergence of more realistic and concrete new trends with a view to creating a teaching programme more adapted to the social, cultural and economic specificities of each country. More concretely, these trends are reflected in essential reforms. The case studies were followed by an overview of typologies of teaching means and materials, which can be examined from different points of view: the functional approach, administrative approach, approach by situation of use, financial approach, approach by purpose, and the chronological approach. In conclusion, a strategy for implementing educational technology was suggested, and attention paid to the production of manuals, distance education, and informal education. Ann.
