Abstract:With the new concepts of learning, such as the information processing function of the central nervous system and the systems approach to teaching-learning, and the availability of new technological services in education, present teacher training institutions will have to go beyond traditional training. Teacher training should be considered as a skill training programme, providing trainees with skills with respect to, amongst others, communicating in the classroom, preparing software and reprographic material, and operating projectors. Within the context of the Third Education Project in Kenya, Learning Resource Centres (LRCs) were established in each of the 17 Primary Teachers Colleges. All of them have a microteaching suite for microteaching practice as a preparation for teaching practice. Diploma Teacher Training Colleges have a full unit course on educational technology. As for the university level programme, the author examines the use of technology in teacher training programmes at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels at Kenyatta University. In conclusion, the author proposes an instructional design for a training course for teachers/instructors in education. The design includes information on task analysis and task description presented in a table. Bibliogr., note.
