| Abstract: | Foreword by Alhaji Shehu IDRIS. The book presents the manifestation of Islam in Hausa-Fulani land, northern Nigeria, the Fulani revivalist 'jihad', the Maguzawa traditions, and the life cycle of the Hausa-Fulani Muslims in Nupeland and Ebirraland; it also discusses the manifestation of Islam in the southern states of Nigeria, particularly among the Yoruba, Etsako and Ibo. It further shows that while Islamic beliefs and practices largely operate in their pure form in the traditional lands, they sometimes become syncretic in other climes. Some extremist movements have also been studied in depth. The last two chapters deal with Islamic education and changes since independence. |
