Abstract: | After defining the terms 'family' and 'sex education', the author looks not only at the relationship between parents and their children in Tanzania but also at the whole question of family life and sex education: its importance to societal development, its meaning and content, the role of parents in sex education and in enhancing its teaching in schools, and factors that contribute to the slowness of its adaptation in the school curriculum. He provides examples of how other African countries, such as Kenya and Ghana, have managed to introduce family and sex education by involving parents and adults in educational programmes. He suggests how family life and sex education could be advanced in Tanzania, particularly through the schools and parental participation. Ref. |
