Abstract: | This paper examines the various methods used by the Christian Churches in planting Christianity in southeastern Nigeria. Strategies of proselytization included conventional church services, Sunday schools and Bible classes; door-to-door preaching; open-air preaching; the ward system, whereby the missionaries kept promising pupils to live with them in the mission compound and receive on-the-job training; and the establishment of mission medical centres, and mission schools introducing formal or Western education.
