Abstract:Data obtained through a sample survey of 260 farmers' multipurpose cooperative societies randomly selected from Anambra, Imo, Rivers and Cross River States in 1988 were used to carry out an economic analysis of farmers' multipurpose cooperative societies in the eastern part of Nigeria. It was found that the aggregate net revenue is low; land, family labour, hired labour and material inputs are reponsible for variability in the aggregate output. Furthermore, it was observed that land is not optimally utilized. The sum of production elasticities of the resources used is approximately one (constant), hence constant returns to scale.
