Abstract: | There seems to be a concerted effort on the part of Western scholars to deny Africa any contribution in the field of philosophy. The author attributes this to the popular Western-European, American conception of Africa as 'a dark continent' and to the academic and dehumanized nature of Western philosophy. He argues that there is an African philosophy, because the African culture has its own way of establishing order and its own view of life. He goes on to outline the content of African philosophy, focusing on metaphysics or ontology, epistemology and ethics. Ref. |
