Abstract: | The theology of liberation aims at a critical correction of contemporary theology inasmuch as this theology shows an extreme privatizing tendency, a tendency, that is, to centre on the private person rather than the 'public', 'political' society. Thus the avoidance of a total split between Church and State. At the same time, the theology of liberation is a positive attempt to formulate the eschatological message under the conditions of present society. In Uganda, the Church needs to play its part in the struggle for human freedom. As part of its mission, the Church must launch a campaign for 'deprivatizing' the message, for if theology wants to serve its purpose of making the liberating message of Christ relevant, it has to reach men in their societal existence.
