Abstract:In Nigeria, there is an abundant social support network to help bereaved persons cope with the process of grief. This network includes relatives, social clubs, church, town and community associations, and people of all ages. However, the merging of traditional and contemporary social networks can become problematic. The involvement of Nigerian widows in unwieldy support group networks may lead to stress. Two cases of career women residing in urban Nigerian settings illustrate the areas of stress within the bereavement process in a contemporary context. Bibliogr., sum.
