Abstract:This report assesses the relevance of graduate training in economics in francophone western and central Africa, identifies its problems and constraints and formulates appropriate strategies to address these concerns. It is based on secondary data as well as interviews with persons in academia, government and the private sector. The countries covered are Cameroun, Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal and Zaire. The report consists of four parts: the background and content of graduate training, the quality of training programmes, the demand for economics graduates, and implications.
