Abstract:In this paper the relative positions of 26 low-income countries in Africa are examined with respect to 12 different socioeconomic indicators. Positioning is performed via correspondence analysis of country ranks. A complementary cluster analysis clarifies the respective positions by grouping the countries under consideration into five different clusters. Using data from the 'World Development Report 1989' the respective analyses show Lesotho and Mauritania to be outlying countries. App., bibliogr., sum.
