| Abstract: | This paper uses gross margin analysis and linear programming techniques to identify the main economic factors affecting the declining production of cotton in Funyula Division of Busia District, Western Kenya. Data for the analysis were collected in May-June 1989. Results show that compared to other crops, such as maize and beans, cotton was the least profitable, with lowest returns to resources. Labour was a major limiting resource. A real boost in cotton production would be achieved through a combination of both improved technology and higher producer prices. Bibliogr., sum. |
