Abstract: | This paper examines the four dominant images of Africa in Europe: the Barbarian, the Heathen, the Exotic, and the Victim. These images are part of a neo-racist strategy, which is analysed here using the ethnophilosophy of Placide Tempels and ideas developed in the latest paper by Jean Copans on modernity in Africa, in which Copans tries to outline the task of a social theory '... for thinking about democracy appropriate for Africa ...'.
