Abstract:The performance of students in physics at the West African School Certificate examinations over the years has shown a downward trend. One of the factors suggested as being responsible for this observation is the quality of physics teaching in Nigerian schools. The present study provides information on the attitudes of some physics teachers towards physics education, and explores the extent to which their attitudes can be changed by organized in-service training courses. Data were collected at the long vacation science courses held at the Universities of Sokoto, Benin and Jos in 1978, 1979 and 1980 respectively. Abstr., bibliogr.
