Abstract:In this paper, the problems confronting health appraisal in the primary schools were identified, and a strong case was made to support participation of teachers in appraising the health of their pupils. The information providing basis for the views was obtained through a questionnaire administered to 205 primary school headteachers in Imo and Anambra States, Nigeria, in 1979. The data showed that while teachers participated in health appraisal of their pupils in the rural schools, they did not in the urban schools. There was evidence to show that the headteachers supported the concept of teacher participation in health appraisal. Consequent on the findings, recommendations were proposed to improve the quantity and quality of teacher participation in health appraisal. App., bibliogr.
