Abstract: | Agbor is the principal chiefdom in the Ika local government area of Bendel State, Nigeria. Its nearness to the Benin Kingdom may have influenced the shaping of Agbor's sociopolitical organization; it shows more of the social and cultural traits of Benin than the other Igbo-speaking chiefdoms on the west bank of the Niger. This paper reconstructs different versions of the royal history of Agbor, and presents a royal genealogy from 1486 to 1979. Notes, ref. |
