Abstract: | The efforts of the Nigerian government to encourage investment in agriculture have not been rewarded by a corresponding improvement in agricultural production. This is partly due to the fact that the government has not adequately incorporated its agricultural policy within a statutory framework. No meaningful agricultural revolution is possible without attention on two areas, namely, credit facility, and the availability of land. Positive legislation in these areas is necessary to achieve the desired goal. There is already legislative intervention on agricultural credits (though not too satisfactory) but none on the availability of land. This article examines the efficacy of the present law on agricultural credits and the implication of the absence of specific legislation on the availability of land for agriculture and makes suggestions for improvement.
