Abstract: | The basis of South Africa's neocolonial strategy in Namibia is the recognition of the political strength and effects of the armed struggle waged by SWAPO and the attempt to develop a political, military, socioeconomic and cultural apparatus with one fundamental characteristic: an anti-SWAPO alliance. This paper analyses the dynamic effects emanating from the neocolonial strategy i.e. the balance of forces that are at play. The first part of the paper locates the political conditions giving rise to the neocolonial strategy. The second part analyses the political crisis within the so-called Transitional Government of National Unity. The third part gives a brief analysis of the measures taken to effect a neocolonial solution and the fourth is devoted to the new forms of popular resistance against collaborative structures at the political, industrial, military and socioeconomic levels. Emphasis is also put on the counterstrategies adopted by the South African government and its imperialist allies to the popular demand for independence. Bibliogr. |
