Abstract: | Biographical sketches of some of Wole Soyinka's relatives: from the Ijebu side of his family, the Odemo of Isara, his grandfather, and his father, Samuel Ayodele Soyinka; from the Egba side of his family, who lived in Abeokuta, the Reverend J.J. Ransome-Kuti (c. 1855-1930), the Reverend I.O. Ransome-Kuti (d. 1955) and his wife, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti (1900-1978) - parents of the Nigerian musician Fela Kuti, and Soyinka's mother, Grace Eniola Soyinka (d. 1983). Biographical information is derived mainly from Soyinka's own work, particularly his autobiography 'Ake: the years of childhood' (1981). Note, ref. |
