Abstract:In 1956 H.F. MORRIS ('Historic sites in Ankole', in: Uganda Journal, vol. 20, no. 2) drew attention to the existence of various historic sites in Ankole, Uganda, which he considered were in danger of being destroyed through agricultural expansion. Some of these sites were mentioned in oral traditions as the settlements of different Bagabe, rulers of the Ankole kingdom. In 1987 the authors visited some of these sites, notably those which might have potential for excavation. These sites are discussed in the chronological order reconstructed by assigning sites to particular Bagabe whose position in the Nkore dynasty in known. Bibliogr., notes, ref.
