Abstract: | The Nigerian Agricultural and Cooperative Bank is a specialized bank established to finance agricultural projects through either direct or on-lending loan disbursement. The bank has been faced with the problem of low loan recovery rates, especially in respect of direct lending. An investigation revealed that this is caused mainly by insensitivity of the terms of loan repayment to the operational characteristics of each lending approach. This paper demonstrates how the project evaluation and review technique (PERT) could be fruitfully employed to determine an appropriate grace period compatible with the characteristics of each lending approach. The paper also demonstrates how the technique could be employed to generate scenarios of different grace periods giving rise to a probability of loan recovery rates from which management may choose its preferred loan recovery target rates. Poultry farming in Nigeria was chosen as the contextual focus of the study. Bibliogr., sum. |
