Abstract: | The complexity of planning for educational development in a developing country such as Kenya, with its imminent population explosion, is pronounced. In order to study this phenomenon, the authors applied mathematical modelling to data pertaining to Kenya's primary education system. The suggested stochastic model, in particular the homogenous Markov chain model, provides an indication of future expected pupil enrolments, staff and capital requirements, and expected pupil performance in national examinations.
