Abstract: | Islam orders every capable man to work hard for his livelihood and to be self-reliant and self-sufficient. It lays down principles and prescribes certain limits for man's economic activity so that the entire pattern of production, exchange and distribution of wealth may conform to Islamic standards of justice and equity. Muslims have a role to play in Nigeria's economic recovery. In this they should be conscious of Allah while undertaking their economic activities and thus avoid materialism and the illegal acquisition of wealth. To avoid the total collapse of the Nigerian economy, Nigerian Muslims should convince the government that the most lasting solution to the country's economic problems is to be found in the principles of Islamic economy.
