Abstract:The historical relationship between church and State in controlling and running African education in colonial Zimbabwe was expressed as a 'policy of partnership'. Although mission churches not only bore the entire burden of the earliest attempts at African education, but also continued to contribute money, personnel and buildings, the colonial government was always the dominant partner with prerogatives in the control and direction of African education. This weakened the partnership instead of strengthening it. Bibliogr., sum.
