Abstract:This book analyses the participation of Ovambo women in northern Namibia in the Namibian independence struggle. It examines why and how women in these areas participated in the struggle. It shows that women were essential supporters of the liberation struggle in spite of their multiple burden as single mothers and main food producers. The book also examines the changes in women's lives caused by the arrival of Christianity, colonialism, the cash economy and modern values, and outlines women's position in independent Namibia. Using the life story method, the book allows women to tell their stories themselves and present their own understanding of their situation.
