Abstract:Lake Kariba, through which the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe cuts a swathe, was formed by the damming of the Zambezi at the Kariba Gorge between 1955 and 1958. It was filled in 1963, making it the third largest man-made lake in the world. The contributions in this collective volume examine the evolution of the lake over the last thirty years. Contents: Sediment characteristics in relation to nutrients distribution in littoral and pelagic waters in Lake Kariba by Gunilla Lindmark, Contribution of nitrogen fixation to the nitrogen budget of Lake Kariba by Stanley M. Moyo, Phytoplankton in Lake Kariba 1986-1990 by Gertrude Cronberg, A review of zooplankton ecology in Lake Kariba by Brian E.
