Abstract: | Although persistent droughts have played a role in Africa's food crisis, the human factor is the underlying problem. Colonization, global economic imbalance, reductions in official development assistance and emphasis on cash crop production at the expense of food production have contributed to Africa's food problems. These have been further compounded by poor government policies, environmental degradation, political instability and excessive wastage of food during handling, transport, storage and marketing. The deprivation of food, which sustains physical life, is tantamount to inflicting death upon humanity. It is therefore imperative for Christians to formulate a theology of development in order to correct the present state of affairs. Bibliogr., sum. |
