Abstract: | The Further-Mathematics course was designed for the brighter students at senior secondary school level in Nigeria. Its implementation started in 1988. Since teachers play a significant role in curriculum implementation, a study of their perception of the contents of the curriculum and their attitudes towards instructional and assessment practices was conducted. The extent to which these teacher variables influence the students' perception of their Further-Mathematics lessons and their achievement in the subject was also examined. The research was carried out among 32 teachers and 349 final year students selected randomly from 32 out of 96 schools offering the subject in Ogun State. The conclusion is that there is a low direct influence of the teachers' perception of the curriculum on the students' learning outcomes but a high and significant direct influence exerted by the teachers' attitudes towards instructional practices. Teachers' attitudes towards assessment practices, again, have no significant direct influence. Bibliogr., sum. |
