Abstract: | The decline of non-oil exports as foreign exchange earners in Nigeria has had an adverse effect on the economy. Since 1986 the federal government has formulated policies to enhance non-oil exports and put in place a large number of incentives, ranging from export insurance to outright grants to export-oriented industries. To ensure the effectiveness of these export promotion policy measures, the government has provided an institutional support framework through the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (Nexim) and the Nigerian Export Processing Zone Authority (NEPZA). This article examines these policies, incentives and framework to assess the achievements of the objectives of adjustment. Suggestions are made for improvements. Bibliogr., sum. |
