Abstract:In the Nigerian university virtually all forms of accountability - political, bureaucratic/administrative, legal, and fiscal - have suffered damage from corruption. The absence of accountability in university governance in Nigeria is a key source of conflict in academia. In order to understand the problems of establishing accountability in Nigerian university governance and to propose appropriate remedies, the author considers the conceptual framework of accountability in university governance, the manifestations of lack of accountability in Nigerian university governance, and its consequences.
