Abstract: | The story of cultural development in the South since 1972 is one of continuous cultural conflict with the North. The division of the South and the imposition of Islamic law in 1983 has shown the real intentions of the Arabized and Islamicized people of the North. Their proclamation of Arabic as a national language, despite the rejection by the Southerners, is another prove of the fact that state power rests in their hands. As people of a developing nation, Sudanese should take note of the past in order to avoid committing the same mistakes as their ancestors. The real strength of the Sudanese nation lies in its cultural diversity. |
