Abstract: | An understanding of the factors influencing the mobility of urban residents would assist government to formulate housing policies to alleviate the housing problem in many cities in developing countries. Based on data collected mainly from a cross-sectional, systematic survey of 736 households in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, in 1993, the author identifies factors affecting a household's willingness to change residence and factors affecting actual change of residence. Convenience of residential location and commuting time of households in relation to members' activities were found to be important in determining residence. The author also found that some households do not move, even when circumstances would seem to indicate that they should. Bibliogr., sum. |
