Abstract: | Up till now the utilization of the Nile waters by the riparian countries (Burundi, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zaire) has not been regulated by any legal framework. Although two agreements were reached in the past, viz. the 1929 Nile Waters Agreement between Britain and Egypt, and the 1959 Agreement between Egypt and Sudan, most of the states concerned refused to recognize them. The author argues in favour of a treaty regulating the use of the Nile waters by all riparian countries. Bibliogr., notes, ref. |
