Abstract:The constitution of the independent state of Kenya is to be found in a schedule in the Kenya Independence Order in Council 1963 (Independence Constitution). This constitution proved to be unsatisfactory, a.o. since it militated against effective government at the Centre and it presented the co-ordination of the national effect. Now the country will be governed by this constitution, as amended by the Kenya Constitution(Amendment) Act, 1964, the Kenya Constitution (Amendment) Act(nr. 2), 1964, and the Kenya Constitution (Amendment) Act, 1965. The article indicates in broad outlines the nature of the changes, recently made in tlle constitution. Many of the powers of the Regions are transferred to the Central Government.
