Abstract: | Since the completion of a dam across the Kubanni River at Ahnadu Bello University there has been a considerable increase in the amount of vegetation in the river cel below the impoundment. These changes are partly associated with the construction of the dam but an increase in the flow of polluted water from the University into the channel below the dam also has an effect. In this paper the vegetation changes are described and discussed and a list of 112 plant species recorded from the river channel during the 1977/78 dry season is provided. Other aspects of the ecology of the Kubanni channel below the dam are briefly discussed. Fig., notes, tab. |
