Abstract:Internal conflicts of law by the multiple legal system of Ghana. Customary law, which is not followed if it is repugnant to natural justice equity and good conscience or if incompatible with statutory law, is being continually influenced by English legal ideas. The Supreme Court exercises jurisdictions concerning an English or 'Ordinance' (monogamous) marriage; native courts have exclusive jurisdiction over customary law marriages. Children of each type of marriage are legitimate. Considerable differences occur between these types of marriage. The author discusses these in extenso.
