Abstract: | The Government of Madagascar set up the Taona Zina project in order to achieve a yield increase of about 25 percent on the 50,000 hectares of rice fields in the Lake Alaotra basin. The project was financed by the Swiss Government and the multinational corporation Ciba-Geigy was responsible for the insect pest control operation. The author, former managing director of Ciba-Geigy, shows that the project generated 45,4 percent more rice than originally planned. |
