Abstract: | The 7 million people inhabiting Ghana today consist of several ethnic groups. Politically and constitutionally the country is governed without distinction as to race or religion. The social systems of the various ethnic groupings, however, differ. The author discusses the three forms of marriage laws recognised, some experiments in integration and ends with suggestions for reforms necessary for achieving the aims of the government, namely: the abolishment of polygamy and the passing of legislation bringing uniformity into the sphere of family law. 1. Marriage laws in Ghana: Customary law marriages - Mohammedan law marriages - Marriage under the Marriage Ordinance, Cap. 127 - Spheres of interrelation and conflict - Some other legal incidents. 2.
