Abstract: | Some of the reactions resulting from the introduction of modern penal justice into Nigerian society by the British, during the colonial era, are discussed. Suggestions are made not only for the solution of the various problems created by the introduction of this system but also for the development of a system which truly reflects the psychological, social, economic, cultural and historical conditions of the people of Nigeria. The establishment of a Federal Law Reform Commission is considered basic to such development. The contributions of such a Commission, if and when it is created, to the achievement of this aim cannot be over-emphasized. Notes. |
