Abstract:This paper is concerned with one aspect oft the relationship between growth and income distribution in South Africa, namely the effect of a redistribution of income from Whites to Blacks on the composition of final demand. An attempt is made to estimate income elasticities for a wide of goods and services consumed by both White en Black urban and rural households. These elasticities are then used to predict changes in demand, and to stimulate the effect of income redistribution on the composition of final demand. Finally some of the supply implications of redistribution are considered. Ref., tables.
