Abstract: | A sample of sixty urban migrants who comply with the definition 'educated' and who work in the public sector in Gaborone was interviewed. The findings are presented here, as they relate to three primary questions: what is the influence of formal training on the propensity to migrate and the resultant occupational status achieved by individual members of Tswana households; what is their level of integration into the urban community, based on criteria such as economic, social and personal commitment; and what are the effects of this selective movement on the rural household and rural production on the one hand and on urban social processes and labour market conditions on the other.
